Qandil has been constructing infrastructure for the water supply since 1992, which now serves more than two million people in the villages and towns of northern Iraq.
Well projects
Qandil built five new wells in 2005, including pump rooms. Two of these wells were located in the Salah al-Din province and three in Mosul. The latter wells serve a population of around 13,000 people living in the town of Mahat, Shekhan District. The population belongs to the religious minority Yazidian group. The project was financed by IOM (International Organisation for Migration). A number of people were trained in conjunction with each well project.
Fayda water project
Fayda military camp, which lies 20 km southwest of Dohuk, provides accommodation for internal refugees. These people moved in at the end of 2003 and a steady stream of new internal refugees continued to come to Fayda. Qandil was assigned by IOM to extend the water distribution network, as there was an insufficient supply of water.
